Hi all, my name is Jingwen Ding, I’m reaching out on behalf of my sister and mother.
On July 22nd, my little sister woke up and found my mother not in the right state of mind. She was trying to stand up on her own but couldn’t, tried to speak but kept giggling uncontrollably and could not form any sort of speech. She would repeat her actions constantly. Both my sister and I were so scared. Not knowing what to do, we called our neighbour and we rushed my mother to the Markham Stouffville Hospital.
When we got there, they told us that we must transfer my mother to Sunnybrook Hospital as she was suffering from a severe stroke that needed to be treated in a specialized stroke hospital. We rushed via ambulance to Sunnybrook where they quickly assessed my mother and noticed that she has lost almost all control of the left side of her brain. From here, my mother was rushed into surgery to remove two major blood clots; One in the neck, and one in the brain.
The clot was successfully removed from the neck but her brain was extremely complicated. She had developed a long term blood vessel disease which left her vessels incredibly thin and they were unable to remove the brain clot. This was thankfully later fixed through overnight medication treatment.
My sister and I thought that my mother was going to be ok after this, but we were wrong. The doctors said my mother suffered a very serious stroke and there was major swelling. We had to proceed with an additional second surgery to remove the skull piece above the left brain in order to release pressure. This came with many risks, including infection, internal bleeding, and damage to healthy parts of the brain.
However, this was her only option, and we proceeded. It has been 4 days since her procedure. I thought she was going to be fine, my momma is a strong and stubborn woman who can through anything.
But unfortunately, we were only met with more devastating news. The doctors told us that due to the severity of the stroke and swelling, with no signs of improvement, my mother would eventually pass away with or without another intubation procedure. My heart aches so so much, I still cannot believe that this is happening. I’ve cried to the point where I have no tears left to cry out anymore.
My sister, auntie (my XiaoYi, mother’s younger sister), and I have decided to let her pass peacefully with as little pain as possible. We are still holding onto hope that perhaps things will turn around but are preparing ourselves for the worst.
Please, please help support us if you can. My sister and I have no immediate family left with my mother in this state. My mother has suffered a hard 4 years after my father left us to fend for ourselves and with overflowing amounts of credit card debt and bills that were too much for my mother to handle on her own. My mother was a genuine and hardworking momma, she only wanted to make sure that our lives were happy and full. My sister is only turning 14 this year, and I’m turning 23 but still in school and paying tuition while working 3 jobs to support ourselves. If you can lend my little sister and I a helping hand, we are deeply appreciative of your generosity.
I’m sorry momma, I’ve failed you. I hope you can pass peacefully and live a beautiful life with grandpa, watching over my sister and I.
