Hey there - we need you
This is Em, the founder of We Are Here. We’re a disabled, queer and non-binary owned coffee roastery here in Margate, Kent.
We aim to make the coffee industry more fun, friendly and most importantly…equitable!
Over the years my health conditions have changed dramatically, mainly affecting my mobility meaning I’m now a part-time wheelchair (aka an ambulatory user) user with full-time use being most likely in the future.
As you can imagine working in a roastery is quite a physical job and is now becoming harder and more dangerous for me to do it.
But, do not worry, we have a solution!
Having spoken with the lovely team at Loring (this is our coffee roastery machine company) about our conundrums, they’ve come up with a cunning plan to help me and other future wheelchair users roast from their chairs. This doesn’t currently exist for this type of roaster so will be completely custom built, meaning all of our green coffee can be sucked up with a vacuum and then delivered to the roaster without any lifting or scooping. They’re also making the controls possible from an iPad so wouldn’t need to stand need the current control screen. Pretty clever hey?
Alongside Em, we’d love other folks to be able to access to something that is usually not considered possible. Plus, we’ve ALL got to look after our backs/knees/shoulders amiright?
We’d love for you to help donate whatever you can to help us reach our target, of course please don’t stretch yourself. Liking and sharing our posts are equally as helpful.
Thanks for reading, appreciate you.
Go CRIPS!
Em
