Help Send the WCHS Marching Band to Salem, Massachusetts
The students of the Wayne County High School Marching Band began this season excited to perform a thoughtfully planned show inspired by the history of Salem. For months, these young musicians, their directors, families, and volunteers poured countless hours into the music, choreography, visuals, props, and preparation needed to bring the production to life.
Just days before band camp began, concerns surrounding the show shirt spread across social media and quickly became a public controversy. Although the students were able to keep and perform the show they had worked so hard to prepare, the original shirts could no longer be used. New shirts had to be designed, produced, and purchased at an unexpected cost to the band program.
Through it all, our students continued to show strength, grace, and dedication. They kept practicing, supported one another, and refused to allow the controversy surrounding the shirt to take away from the music and the story they had worked so hard to tell.
Then something incredible happened.
After hearing about the students and their Salem-inspired production, the Mayor of Salem, Massachusetts, invited the Wayne County High School Marching Band to visit Salem. What began as a difficult and discouraging situation has now become an opportunity these students could have never imagined.
We are raising funds to help cover transportation, lodging, meals, and other expenses involved in taking the band to Salem. This trip would allow our students to experience the history that inspired their show, represent Wayne County on a larger stage, and see firsthand how something positive can grow from a difficult situation.
These students deserve the opportunity to turn this chapter into a memory filled with pride, joy, education, and music. Every donation, no matter the amount, will help bring them one step closer to Salem. If you are unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser would mean so much to our band family.
