Meet Waylan, my son rescued him a few months back. Thursday last week, he slipped his collar and unfortunately, he got hit by a car. Even though this is my son's dog, I didn't hesitate to take him to the veterinary. He had some wounds and was bleeding. I also needed to make sure nothing was broken. By the grace of God, nothing was broken, but on his left back leg, he had a couple of serious wounds, one where you could see his bone (he had a smaller wound on his left front leg). He had to stay overnight at the veterinary, and he ended up getting staples on all his wounds on both legs. The veterinary bill was almost $900. That was all the money I had saved up. I have stage 4 breast cancer with bone Mets (means my cancer has spread to my bones), so I work part-time. I clean homes for extra cash, but I do it dirt cheap to help out the elderly that are on a fixed income, and I am able to make some extra cash.
Since we left the vet on Thursday, keeping that cone on him has been a struggle. As you can see, we had to put some heavy-duty duct tape on it. Waylan is a puppy, so he is full of energy, but somehow he busted out a set of staples. It's the wound where you can see his bone. I bought a couple of wraps, and for the time being, I did wrap it. I also got him some calming medicine for dogs (to help him relax and not be so energetic) and stuff for his wound. He also has a crate; it's hard keeping him inside it because he can't move with the cone on. I called the vet today to get a price on taking him back in and putting the staples back in for the second time. They said like $250-$350. I was blown away. I don't have another $150-$350. I just literally spent what I had last week when I took him after his accident.
I almost wasn't gonna keep him because I live on a busy street and I was so afraid of him getting hurt again and it be worse. Thanks to a couple of people on Facebook, they gave me some ideas that would keep him safe. I bought him a collar that he cannot slip and a harness, and I also got a second leash so he will be hooked up to both, so this won't happen again. Please help me so I can get Waylan the proper care he needs. I hate asking, and I feel horrible that I don't have the money. Even if it's only $5 or you share my GoFundMe. Thank you! I just am scared that if I don't get it stapled back, it's gonna get worse and then even more money. So please help me help Waylan. Thank you!!
