On June 30, a flash flood hit Manheim, and my sister’s home was severely affected. Their entire first floor was under 2 feet of water. The basement was completely submerged, and their garages were under 5 feet of water.

Her husband and their three young children, ages 6, 3, and just 7 months, were woken by a call to check on them. Within an hour, they had to be evacuated by boat as water quickly surrounded their home.

They’ve lost nearly everything. Both of their vehicles, many essential belongings (some of which, thankfully, can be replaced), and countless sentimental items that cannot. Most devastating of all, they’ve lost the stability of their home. They’re currently staying with family while trying to navigate the emotional and financial toll of this disaster

The road ahead is overwhelming. They’re now facing the complex process of dealing with insurance, permits, and the possibility of having to level and raise their home to meet floodplain regulations. They also lost both of their vehicles in the flood. While they were insured, the insurance payouts won’t be enough to replace both.

Every donation, big or small, will go directly toward helping them meet urgent needs, replace basic essentials, and begin the long process of rebuilding their life.

While gifts for the kids and gift cards will absolutely be welcomed and appreciated in the future, the family is currently limited on storage space and must prioritize immediate needs like housing and vehicle costs. Monetary donations are the most helpful at this time!
