Help Walter "Wolfman" Washington

As you may know, Walter Wolfman Washington recently passed away after quietly battling cancer. On behalf of Walter “Wolfman” Washington, The Funky Uncle has organized this GoFundMe page. There are significant unpaid medical bills from his illness, and we would also like to raise the funds necessary to give Walter the sendoff to match his style and character. Walter was a true icon of the New Orleans’ sound and scene who, when not playing to the people of the Crescent City, took his music all over the world spreading it to countless fans and admirers. He created a distinct fusion of blues, rhythm and blues and funk which is unparalleled. Walter was our music community. He told the New Orleans’ story through music and style while at the same time educating and inspiring all who desired to “understand”.

Walter’s funeral will be Wednesday January 4, 2023 at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home 3827 Canal St, New Orleans, LA 70119 viewing 9a-12p/service 2p-3p and, then, followed by a procession to St Louis cemetery #3 3421 Esplanade Ave, New Orleans, LA 70119.

A music celebration of his life and benefit will be held at Tipitina’s on January 8, 2023 from 5-11 featuring The Roadmasters with Leo Nocentelli, Jon Cleary, Mem Shannon and more TBA, Galactic, Ivan Neville, Little Freddie King, Johnny Sansone Band, Ricci Krown Trio, John "Papa" Gros and The Tin Men. The Funky Uncle is a charity whose mission is to help musicians and gig workers.
