HELP: WALMART ISSUES STILL ONGOING,CHANGE INCOMING
Donation protected
Hello. My name is Storm Smith. I live in Bradenton, Florida, with my 56-year-old father, Daniel Smith. Recently my father had a stroke while he was at work. His doctor advised that my father should not return to work and agreed with my father that he should seek disability from the government. My father then utilized temporary disability/leave pay from Walmart. After a month, they asked him to return, which his doctor had not yet cleared. The people at Sedgwick insisted for several weeks that we had not sent them HIPAA forms, even though we had my fathers' doctor send them repeatedly.
As stated before, my father was denied further temporary disability payments and asked to return to work after two pay periods had passed without pay. We have appealed, but it has now been three pay periods and counting since we last received any payment from Walmart/Sedgwick. That is over a month and a half we've lived without his income due to Sedgwick's employees not being able to sort through their own correspondence.
My father and I split our rent bill by half, but my income hasn't been adequate to keep up with our bills which have mounted. Additionally, due to several emergency veterinary expenses for our cat the week before my father's payments from Sedgwick stopped, we already were operating on an $800 financial deficit from which we have yet to recover.
We have tried applying to local relief and aid programs, and Turning Point Florida has helped us pay October's rent. The issue with this is Turning Point's funds seem to be limited, and we're only able to apply for around $2,000 every six months through their season of sharing program for rent assistance. Our rent is $1335.60 with a $100 late fee that becomes applicable when the apartment complex gives you notice of being late, which is itself a requirement to receive Turning Point's assistance. As such, we cannot pay for our housing with their assistance this month.
Most other programs, including the salvation army, have told us they cannot offer us rental assistance. There is a grant we have applied to for stroke survivors, but that is potentially a month away, and we may still be rejected.
Rent is due on the 5th, and previous late notices from our property management have informed us that eviction processes may begin on the 10th.
I will be completely honest and say that, yes, I am asking you to donate to help us pay our rent and I loathe having to stoop to this, but I cannot be sure any of the programs we have contacted will be able to help us pay for our rent for the month of December. Nor do I have faith that Sedgwick will accept my father's appeal for continuing temporary disability payments.
I have had family that has faced evictions which resulted in their homelessness because they found they had then been placed on lists that prevented them from renting in their home city for several years at a time, and I dearly would like to avoid such a fate for myself, my now medically disabled father, and my cat.
The extra money I have applied to the overall cost here is to compensate for the fee GoFundMe takes out of its donations. Any additional funds we are provided will go to our utilities and basic living expenses.
If anyone wants to verify our story prior to donation, I am willing to divulge any necessary information privately.
