Suzie Barbour is visiting the Centaurus Foundation Sanctuary to check out the new home for the horses from Crete. Here is what she has to say: Today I visited the horses that are in their winter area at The Centaurus Horse Reserve. The reserve spans over 400 hectares (nearly 1,000 acres) within the Przemkowski Landscape Park. Here, horses, ponies, and donkeys rescued by the Centaurus Foundation live in conditions as close to natural as possible. Most of these animals are no longer fit for work and can live out their lives in peace.

Location: The reserve is part of the larger Przemkowski Landscape Park in Poland (near Legnica). The Foundation's main animal farm is in Szczedrzykowice.

I just loved this place where the horses can be so free and live as naturally as possible. Today it was very muddy because of the recent snowfall but in the spring the horses are free to roam over 100s of acres whilst under the constant supervision of the sanctuary staff. These were very happy curious horses of all shapes and sizes.

The Walk With Donkeys sanctuary in Crete, founded by Alistair Paton and Suzie Barbour, has provided shelter and medical care to donkeys and horses who were old, retired, or rescued. But now it is time to close the sanctuary and move the last horses and donkeys to new homes.

Following Alistair's death, Suzie can no longer manage proper care of the animals alone, and volunteers are increasingly hard to recruit. She does not want to close the sanctuary, but it is the safest and best thing for her and the equines. The good news is that a wonderful sanctuary outside of Greece has agreed to take them. We need to start raise funds for the medical checks, vaccines, and paperwork, and the transportation costs that must be covered. We are asking for donations to cover these expenses, so that the horses and donkeys can continue to live and be cared for and loved.
