Please consider helping farming families in Otake Camp, Mill Camp and Mahiko who lost it all - their livelihood, farm infrastructure and equipment, vehicles and homes. Many still have to pay rent and other bills, they have no source of income, no transportation, and many are living without the security they had before the flood. This GoFundMe campaign is hosted by fellow Waialua farmers working together to help our neighboring farmers. This is not a quick road to recovery and many of these farmers are multi-generational farmers who have invested their life savings into their farms. Many of the farmers planned to harvest the acres of okra, papaya, peppers, beans, bananas and other fruit for another six months or more. It will take at least three months for many of these crops to be ready to harvest again. We are working together to do soil and water testing, with many food safety guidelines recommending another 30 to 60 days before planting. Please show farmers in our community that theyʻre not alone and weʻre all here to support them. Local food matters in our community and they make it happen! All proceeds will go directly to the farming families to help them with their immediate needs to recover. Mohala Farmʻs non-profit will receive the funds and track all checks which will be split evenly and distributed directly to the families.
We will be hosting workdays and helping to facilitate direct donations to the families to help fix their tractors or other equipment and rebuild their farms.
