On August 8th, my brother Wahid suffered a serious accident while playing padel at David Lloyd Bushey. What started as a normal, friendly game took a sudden turn when he was struck hard in the face, leaving him with severe bruising around his jaw, mouth, and nose and causing two of his teeth to crack beyond repair.
The impact was immediate and painful. Wahid was rushed to A&E and later to several dentists, but despite action, the damage was too severe to save the teeth. He now urgently requires replacement of both teeth and a root canal procedure to prevent further complications and restore his ability to eat, speak, and smile without pain.
As many will know, specialist dental care in London is incredibly expensive, and finding a practice that can carry out such complex restorative work at an affordable rate is almost impossible. This accident was completely unexpected, and Wahid is not in a financial position to cover the full cost of treatment.
With the treatment totalling £9000+ we’re hoping, through this fundraiser, to ease some of the burden and help Wahid get the care he needs. The goal is simple: put a smile back on his face and get him back on the padel court doing what he loves, without pain or self-consciousness.
This has been a painful reminder of the importance of safety in sports, even in games that feel low-risk. While we’re extremely grateful that the injuries weren’t life-threatening, the physical and emotional impact has been huge.
Every contribution, no matter the size, will bring us closer to helping Wahid recover fully. Thank you for reading Wahid’s story and for any support whether it’s donating or sharing this page.
