Help Waffles the Cat Get Healthy Again

Please help neighborhood cat Waffles feel better!

Hi everyone! This fundraiser is to help sweet Waffles get some much-needed medical care to help him feel better!

Waffles is a male tuxedo cat who has been spotted around the southern part of Park Slope for weeks, maybe months - he looks distinctive because he has large patches of fur missing. I was finally able to trap him a few weeks ago and he has been patiently waiting for a dental appt so that he can finally feel better, and that day is finally here in two days! I'm appealing for any donations that can help me pay for his care before and after his appointment. Please read further for more of our story!

I'm a long-time foster/animal rescue volunteer for numerous groups around the NYC area. During February, I learned that a kitty in the neighborhood had been spotted, and that he looked sick. I looked for him for weeks and other people in the neighborhood told me he had been seen in various locations, looking for food, while others also tried to find him. Given the freezing cold weather at the time, I was desperate to find him.

One night, I finally saw him, literally scratching at the street looking for something to eat, and ran home to grab my trap to try to get him. He was so hungry that he walked into my trap before I even moved away from it.

I did not have a fosrer or holder for him yet but there was no way that I was going to let him back out on the street in his condition- skinny, huge chunks of fur missing, goopy sad eyes, and drooling mouth.

Luckily, the amazing Vicki Devor, cat rescuer and advocate extraordinaire, took him in and named him Waffles!

A visit to Park Slope Vet Center confirmed that he was sick with a URI that needed to be treated before he could be neutered, and that he was also suffering from grade 3 dental disease and would need a dental to feel better. He also has FIV, but otherwise is pretty young, around 5 years old, with no other health issues.

Vicki has been amazingly holding onto Waffles since I brought him to her, and caring for him. She reports that he's calm but obviously not feeling well, and that he may be a dumped bodega cat.

We have scheduled him for a dental and neuter on March 20th at Faithful Friends Animal Hospital, and hope that once he's recovered from both, he will prove to be a friendly cat that we can find a foster and adopter for one day.

In the meantime, I'm hoping people can help donate toward Waffles's first vet bill at Park Slope Vet Care, and his upcoming procedures on March 20th. Any help would be super appreciated!!! Between Vicki and me, we've paid for food and litter for him, and I've paid his past bill and will pay for the future care as well. This is on top of both of us caring for and feeding other stray animals in the neighborhood.

This poor boy is calm and sweet and looks so sad. I really believe that the dental in particular will have a huge impact on his health and life, and I'm looking forward to him feeling better soon!

Thank you all so much for the consideration!

The past vet bill was $397

I only have an estimate for the dental from Park Slope Vet Center (for $1421), and will update once I pay the bill Thursday, but with the neuter and dental, I was told by the Faithful Friends vet to expect to pay at least $1200.
