Waffles has been my loyal companion and emotional support animal for over five years. He’s the friendliest, happiest bunny, always ready to cuddle and help me relax by applying gentle weight to my chest—something that calms my nervous system when my PTSD flares up. During the isolation of college in the COVID years and through many personal struggles, caring for Waffles was often the only thing that got me out of bed and kept me going. He’s not just a pet; he’s my lifeline, and I hope to have him by my side for many more years.
Recently, Waffles developed ongoing dental issues that make it painful for him to eat. This has led to multiple vet visits, X-rays, a procedure, and unfortunately, a complication that caused him to scratch his cornea. He’s lost a significant amount of weight and now faces a difficult choice: either undergo a major dental surgery to remove the problematic teeth or be placed in 24/7 supportive care at a hospital. I’ve already spent thousands on his care, and now he’s on constant medication unless we can move forward with the surgery, which comes with its own risks and high costs.
Getting Waffles the care he needs would mean he could return to being a happy, active bunny—eating hay, jumping around, and enjoying his favorite treats. It would also allow me to focus on work and my future, instead of being tied to his medication schedule and constantly worrying about his health. The financial strain is overwhelming and is even holding me back from applying to graduate school. I don’t want to lose Waffles or have to give him up; he is deeply loved and cared for. Any support to help cover his medical expenses would mean the world to both of us, giving Waffles the chance to live pain-free and letting me breathe a little easier.
