Let’s help Waffles beat FIP (again )!
Waffles was officially cured for FIP on 12/13 after 84 days of treatment and 84 days of observation. Unfortunately, sometimes the medication for FIP doesn’t totally knock out the virus in one go, and we have found ourselves dealing with a sick Waffles yet again. We are heartbroken that FIP wants our cat this badly, especially after welcoming a new kitten into our family for Waffles.
As some of you may know, the cost of FIP medication is astronomical. For a cat her size, treatment is roughly about $40/day for 84 days. This is on top of the added costs of vet visits and bloodwork panels every 4 weeks. Any help our friends could provide would mean the world to us!
On New New Years Eve, Waffles was rushed to the ER vet with a 105 degree fever and shallow breathing. My husband and I spent the next 7 hours in the waiting room, eager to hear the results of the diagnostics. After a nearly $2,000 vet visit, we were left without answers as her bloodwork and every test came back within normal ranges. However, I knew something was wrong.
With the support of her original FIP admins and some vials I (luckily) kept, we administered a weight-appropriate dose on 1/1 and her fever broke within 7 hours.
Due to this, we are suspecting a FIP relapse and will continue to treat Waffles for an additional 84 days.
