Waffle is my 9-year-old mixed breed dog, and he’s been my companion through so many chapters of life. I got Waffle the day I had to say goodbye to my heart dog, and he quickly became more than just a pet—he’s a former athlete with titles in obedience, FastCAT, and dock diving. During COVID, Waffle transitioned from competitor to family pet, supporting me through nursing school, pregnancy, and the loss of my dad in 2024. He’s been there for every milestone, and my husband and I consider him family.

Recently, Waffle ate something he shouldn’t have, likely a diaper, which led to days of vomiting and a critical bowel obstruction. After several vet visits, misdiagnosis, and delays, he finally received emergency surgery at a hospital that confirmed the foreign body. The delay worsened his condition, and at 9 years old, his recovery is slow and uncertain. I work three jobs as an RN to support my family, but the cost of Waffle’s care has been overwhelming. We were just about to buy a second car when this crisis hit. We’ve always been debt-free except for our home, and this new financial burden is daunting.

Waffle is not just a pet—he’s my companion, a former athlete, and a source of comfort through many life changes. We’re not ready to say goodbye, and any support means the world to our family.
