Help Wade Keep his Vision!

Hello friends and family, my name is Melissa, and I am helping to fundraise for Wade and his mom Jessica. In January of 2022, Wade was diagnosed with keratoconus. If this eye condition is left untreated, it may worsen and lead to permanent vision loss for Wade. On September 26, 2022, Wade will have an eye surgery called corneal cross-linking to stop the progression of this eye disease.

Keratoconus is an eye disease that affects the structure of the cornea, causing it to thin and have surface irregularities. There is no cure for this eye disease, and surgery is done to stop the progression. Since his diagnosis in early 2022, Wade has had four scans of his corneas, and each scan has shown the condition progressing for the worse. Unfortunately, if this eye disease is left untreated, it can lead to permanent vision loss for Wade. Wade will need a full cornea transplant in both eyes by the time he is 18 years old. Until then, he must have corneal cross-linking surgery to stop the worsening of the disease. The surgery will be on one eye, to begin with, and if successful, in 3-6 months, Wade will have his other eye done with the same surgery.

Insurance covers most of the procedure; however, out-of-pocket costs for the surgery will be $7,000. The money raised here will go directly to the out-of-pocket expense. I am asking family and friends to consider any amount they can donate to help ease the financial burden on Jessica. As you can understand, Jess has had many sleepless nights worrying about Wade and the outcome of the surgery and, ultimately, the disease process. Any financial support will help make a difference for both Jessica and Wade!

Wade is an active 10-year-old who loves to be outdoors. He enjoys fishing and paddle boarding. He is currently playing flag football and loves to watch it too! Wade cherishes his family and friends.
