Update 2/21: The insurance company won’t able to come assess the damage until next week. I’m so disappointed at the lack of urgency. Leaving everything sitting for a week+ is only going to make clean up worse and lessens any chance of salvaging even the smallest things. I am so grateful to everyone that has donated, money or items. If we can just get the insurance company to get their side done then we can start fixing this. I hate sitting around when I could be doing something.
Update 2/19: We are hoping to hear from the home owners insurance today but the snow is only making this more difficult. FEMA isn’t taking applications yet so I’m not sure how much they’ll help. They have a storage unit for when we can start cleaning out the house but the only stuff not ruined is what was hanging on the walls or in top cabinets. The house itself isn’t salvageable. We’ll have to tear it down and start over for them. I’m so grateful they and their animals are safe and that Tiff’s sister is able to give them a place to stay. Some people have no where to go and no family to help when a crisis hits. Yesterday we were able to get them some dog food, cat food, and a much better air mattress to hold them over for a while. Unfortunately my Toyota Corolla can’t fit a queen sized mattress. I would’ve tried! I don’t think we’ll need to replace clothes or sheets. Work shoes did not survive.
I appreciate all the donations and sharing. Every little bit helps. Here’s other ways to donate if you don’t want to use the website.

My brother and sister-in-law have lost everything in the flood. They bought a house after they married and have worked so hard for everything they have. We don’t come from money and, like most of eastern Kentucky, they live paycheck to paycheck. The water was about three feet high in the house and the floors were falling through when they walked on them. Any kind of help is welcome. Their clothing is (maybe) salvageable but nothing else. Everything here will go to them and potentially rebuilding the house.
