Our dear friend Vula Malinga has just lost her last remaining grandparent, her grandmother ‘Gogo’ in Zimbabwe. She sadly found out just minutes before one of our gigs at Ronnie Scott’s jazz club in london and to be quite honest, it’s a wonder and a testament to her strength and professionalism that she even made it on stage to do the show after having just received news like that.
The sad truth of the matter, however, is that Zimbabwe is on the ‘red’ list in ‘covid-19’ restriction terms and after the tough year we’ve all had as artists and performers, she will struggle to afford to help cover any funeral arrangements, pay for all the covid tests, pay for her mother’s travel out there, then cover the hotel quarantine on the return for 11 nights at £2250 per person, as it’s the return from a ‘red’ country.
Vula pays for much of her family matters and this situation she’s finding herself in is so cruel and unfair. We need to help her make this not a financial worry, but ease her through something that is manageable financially to help take the pressure off. Even the smallest donations from each and every one of Vula’s friends (of which she has many) will make the a huge difference.
Please help by sharing this page and donating what you can. Thank you all so much.
