Help a Vermont Family Save Their Home & Livelihood

A life-changing accident, a small business at risk, and a family fighting to survive.

Dear Friends, Neighbors, Guests, and Kind-Hearted Strangers,

We never imagined we would be here asking for help - but life changed overnight, and we need to be honest about where we are.

We are Anatoly and Rose. In 2014, we moved to Vermont in pursuit of happiness and a dream of becoming innkeepers. As the sole owners and operators of our Bed & Breakfast, we chose the demanding path of self-employment, knowing it would require sacrifice. For more than ten years, that choice has rewarded us with a life rich in purpose, connection, and deep personal fulfillment.

In October 2024, Anatoly was seriously injured in a motor vehicle accident and left permanently disabled. Because he is a major contributor to the operation of our small Vermont inn, the accident forced us to shut down for nearly seven months - eliminating our income during our most critical seasons.

In May 2025, when Anatoly partially recovered, we reopened on a limited basis - determined to keep going, but we did so with depleted savings, rising operating costs, and historically low travel demand. Despite cutting expenses and doing everything possible to stay afloat, the reality is stark:

Without a meaningful financial infusion - whether through a lump-sum contribution or steady monthly donations - we will not survive financially, either as a business or as a family.

To add insult to injury, the Social Security Administration denied Anatoly’s disability application without ever evaluating the severity of his injuries or his permanent disability. After a lifetime of hard work and years of paying into the system, he was told—on a technicality—that he did not qualify for help as a low-income self-employed small business owner. The safety net we believed would be there in a time of crisis was suddenly out of reach—leaving us shocked, discouraged, and facing this fight alone.

We want you to know that we are not sitting idle or relying solely on goodwill. We are actively working with lenders, exploring loan modifications, negotiating relief where possible, and pursuing every creative and responsible financing option available to us.

Unfortunately, in today’s economic climate - and given the temporary disruption to our operations - these avenues are extremely limited and slow-moving. That is why we are turning, with humility, to you as our trusted support network.

Our immediate goal is to raise $70,000 by April 2026. This support is essential to cover fixed large operating costs and basic living expenses through the slow season until June 2026 and to give us a chance to stabilize, recover, and rebuild. Without it, we face the very real risk of losing both our livelihood and our home.

This inn is not a side project or an investment - it is how we support ourselves and the life we have spent more than a decade building together. We are fighting to keep it, but we cannot do this alone.

If you are able to donate - whether once or monthly - your support will directly help keep us afloat during this critical period. If you cannot donate, sharing this message or offering words of encouragement truly helps more than you may realize.

Thank you for reading, for caring, and for standing with us during one of the most difficult moments of our lives. Your support gives us hope when we need it most. ❤️

With deep gratitude,

Rose & Anatoly
