Help Vivian Save Her Mother's Home and Dignity

Donation protected
My mother is 66 years old. She worked her entire life as an accountant—sharp, responsible, and dedicated. But at 27, she was diagnosed with Bipolar 1 Disorder.

Mental illness is not one-and-done, it’s a lifetime roller coaster. I’ve been on that roller coaster since I was 10 years old, watching her battle through highs, lows, stability, and deep struggle.

Today, she lives on permanent disability through Social Security because her disorder took over her life.

The Scam

Last year, while in a manic phase, she was targeted by an online romance scammer. He stole $81,000 from her and then pressured her to sell her home to give him another $70,000.

This home had only a $45,000 mortgage left. It should have been her safety net, her stability, her dignity. Instead, it became the target of greed.

The Companies’ Role

Seller’s New Day is a wholesale real estate company. They purchased my mother’s home ‘as is’ far below market value, and then sold it to a house-flipping company called Good Mood Studios.

I begged them to reverse the sale. I told them we’d give them their money back, just forget the deal ever happened. I pleaded with them to do the right thing. They told me they’d call me back.

But instead of calling me back, my parents received a three-day quit or pay notice taped to their door.

That forced me to retain an eviction attorney on top of the real estate attorney already fighting to get the property back. And all of this, while our attorneys had already sent letters explaining my mother’s condition, begging these companies to stop.

The Family Impact

My father is 75 years old. At his age, he is still out there building homes with his own hands because he never had the education to know he could create his own retirement account.

For him, their home was the retirement. That was the end goal. That was supposed to be their security in their golden years. And now, even that is being stripped away.

Both of my parents, after a lifetime of sacrifice and hard work, are victims.

The Legal Reality

I’ve had Durable Power of Attorney since 2017 over both her finances and health care. I believed with all my heart that it would protect her.

But I’ve learned the hard way: POA wasn’t enough. Only conservatorship could have protected her and reversed the sale. Families need to know this, because so many believe they’re protected when they’re not.

The Injustice

On September 3rd, my mother, mentally ill, permanently disabled and is facing eviction from the only home she’s ever known.

This isn’t just a mistake. This is elder abuse. This is financial exploitation. And it’s happening in plain sight because companies chose profit over humanity, even after attorneys and family begged them to stop.

The Message to the World

For those who don’t understand how my mother could make this decision, let me say this: you don’t need a mental illness to make mistakes. Anyone can be deceived.

Elderly people, especially those with disabilities, are prime targets for scammers. If it can happen to my family, it can happen to yours.

Call to Action & GoFundMe

I’m speaking out because this isn’t only about my mother, it’s about every vulnerable senior and every family who could be next.

We need stronger protections, accountability for companies that enable this abuse, and awareness so no other family has to endure this pain.

We’ve also created this GoFundMe page to help with the legal expenses. After so much money has already been stolen and lost, any support would mean the world to us. It would help us keep fighting for justice and help us protect my mother’s home.
