HELP VITTORIA FULFILL HER EDUCATION GOALS

Hi, let me introduce myself,

I am Vittoria Damini and I’m attending the Liceo Duca D'Aosta in Padova. I have just finished the third year in the experimental Sezione Rondine class and next year I have been selected to be part of the Quarto Anno in Rondine, a beautiful “borgo” village near Arezzo, Tuscany, Italy.

The name Rondine in English means Swallow and it is the real name of the abandoned old village which is being repurposed to host this project; but it also the name of the bird: in Italy a bird coming from Africa and symbolizing the arrival of spring. A new awakening, a rebirth, a symbol of hope: because all the birds newborn in Italy, eventually, will fly on their own towards different corners of the world to bring, again, hope and rebirth the following year.

I am very excited, I feel lucky and proud at the same time and I can't wait to start. You may be wondering what this Rondine involves... Sezione Rondine...Quarto Anno Rondine...and Rondine Cittadella della Pace.

This year, in class, we have only just begun to understand what Rondine is about: Basically, we are trained to face and cope with “ conflicts” on all levels: personal, interpersonal, local, global with a new awareness, perception and in a different perspective. We are learning and encouraged to see conflict and the 'enemy' through different eyes and be active parts of our society.

So what is Rondine?

Rondine is a physical place, a mediaeval village, where university students from different countries meet to be together and learn and understand each other and to study together new ways to 'disarm' themselves and the society we live in. In this same place some thirty students from various high schools in Italy live and study together for their fourth year of high school (which in Italy is not the last one). After that year, they return home and to their old school and finish high school with their former class. Here they will implement new community service projects designed during the previous year, applying all the good practices they have learned in this fourth year.

Rondine is a method, which for the past two years has been exported to some high schools all over the Italian territory. A method recognised and studied by various academic institutions in Italy and now also in the United States (University of Padova, Università Cattolica di Milano and University of Trento), and its founder, Franco Vaccari, has also been invited to speak about it at the UN in 2023. In Rondine Liliana Segre chose to make her last public speech because, as she said, here is "the world I would like to see in the years that remain to me'.

Rondine is a state of the soul, helping and coaching young people to become aware and reflect on the perception we have of the “enemy” and of the “conflict”; to learn and recognise them; to deconstruct them and rebuild them with a new purpose.

Rondine is a teaching and an awareness which we, as students, in the end will make our own according to our own personal predispositions and interests.

So… why am I writing to you and what am I asking?

I won a selection to be part of next year’s Quarto Anno but Rondine has costs which are way beyond the ability to afford it for the non-profit organization which created it and my family. I won my place in this class but I don’t have a scholarship (as in my region all the possible sponsors we tried are not willing to invest and help me out).

I need your help to be able to support the costs that will allow my participation at the Quarto Anno Rondine; that money will be used for books, board, meals, teachers and educational trips.

Salve, mi presento, sono Vittoria Damini e frequento il Liceo Duca D’Aosta di Padova. Ho appena terminato la terza sezione Rondine e l’anno prossimo sono stata selezionata per poter far parte del QUARTO ANNO proprio a Rondine, un borgo bellissimo poco fuori Arezzo. Sono molto emozionata, mi sento fortunata e orgogliosa allo stesso tempo e non vedo l’ora di iniziare.

Vi starete chiedendo che cos’è questa Rondine… terza Rondine… Quarto anno Rondine…e poi aggiungiamo anche Rondine Cittadella della Pace ….vi lascio anche dei link qui sotto ma una buona sintesi potrebbe essere che è impossibile spiegarlo e bisogna esserci per capirlo e anche solo per afferrarne il senso. Quest’anno con la sezione Rondine a scuola e con i miei compagni di classe che assieme a me hanno scelto di prender parte a questa avventura, abbiamo solo cominciato a capire di che cosa si tratta ma già siamo proiettati ad affrontare il conflitto a tutti i livelli: personale, interpersonale, locale, globale con una nuova sensibilità e in una diversa prospettiva... salveremo il mondo? Non lo sappiamo ma sicuramente riusciremo a vedere il conflitto e il “nemico” con lenti diverse e ad essere una goccia di cambiamento in un’oceano…ma tante gocce fanno un oceano!

Che cos’è Rondine…

…Rondine è un luogo fisico, un borgo appunto, in cui studenti studenti universitari di paesi nemici si incontrano per stare assieme e imparare a riconoscersi e a capirsi e insieme a studiare modi per “disarmarsi” e gestire dialetticamente e con consapevolezza i conflitti. In cui studenti delle classi quarte di vari licei d’Italia stanno insieme, mangiano assieme, dormono in convitto e studiano per un anno scolastico per poi rientrare in classe quinta nel loro liceo e città di provenienza, e parallelamente affrontano attività e percorsi che li portano appunto ad acquisire queste nuove chiavi di lettura, queste lenti.

… Rondine è un metodo, che da due anni viene esportato in alcune scuole superiori d’Italia (circa 30) per ampliare l’esposizione dei giovani a questo approccio, che altrimenti sarebbero solo i circa 30 che ogni anno fanno il quarto anno residenziale a Rondine.

… Rondine è uno stato dell’anima, che porta i giovani a riflettere sulla percezione che abbiamo del nemico e del conflitto, per imparare e riconoscerli e a riconoscersi. In questo senso è un insegnamento, una consapevolezza che porteremo sempre con noi e che faremo maturare in forme e modi che appartengono pur sempre alle nostre caratteristiche e alle nostre predisposizioni personali.

… Rondine è una speranza costruttiva, non a caso è un metodo riconosciuto e studiato da varie istituzioni accademiche in Italia e ora anche negli Stati Uniti e il suo fondatore, Franco Vaccari è stato invitato a parlarne anche all’ONU nel 2023. Non a caso a Rondine Liliana Segre ha scelto di fare il suo ultimo intervento pubblico perché, come lei stessa ha affermato, qui c’è «il mondo che vorrei vedere negli anni che mi restano».

Ho bisogno del vostro aiuto per poter esaudire questo sogno e far parte della Quarta Rondine l’anno prossimo e anche se Rondine non lascia per strada nessuno i costi sono importanti: vitto, alloggio, libri, personale insegnante e di supporto al percorso, trasporto, visite di istruzione.
