Dear Friends, Family, and Kind-Hearted Strangers,
Our son Vincent was recently diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome on January 30th, 2024. While this diagnosis has brought many challenges, it has also strengthened our resolve to provide Vincent with the best care and support possible. Vincent is a joyful and resilient little boy, and we are blessed to have him in our lives. He will require life long care and support.
The past few months we have been struggling to make ends meet. Mom is unable to secure a steady income due to the demands of Vincent’s weekly therapies and doctor appointments. These sessions are crucial for his development and well-being. In addition to these ongoing commitments, Vincent needs a second eye surgery, which will require his father to take unpaid time off work to assist during his recovery. His surgery will take place on August 6th 2024. UPDATE-Vincent had his second eye surgery and is on the path to a great recovery. We can’t thank you all enough to the ones who have already donated. This helped us keep a roof over his head during much needed resting/recovery time for him.
We are in the process of seeking approval from In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) for Mom to become Vincent's paid caregiver. Unfortunately, our initial application in January was denied due to Vincent's age and inability to “put himself in danger”. Despite this setback, Vincent has been making tremendous progress. He attended a treadmill camp called "Ready Set Walk" and is showing significant strides, although he is not yet walking independently. We have reapplied for IHSS and are hopeful for a positive outcome this time.
Vincent will be attending another walking camp from late September through the first week of November and we need help covering these expenses as well. Regardless of IHSS, we need our boy to walk for his own sake and wellbeing as he approaches his 3rd birthday this coming May. A lot of people with Angelman Syndrome do not ever walk and we need to keep up with his therapies in order to maintain a positive outcome for our son.
As a result of these challenges, we are struggling to pay our rent, bills, out of pocket therapy costs and basic necessities including but not limited to diapers, wipes, gas to get to and from Vincent’s appointments, food for Vincent’s special dietary needs, medically necessary equipment, the list goes on. The financial strain is overwhelming, and we find ourselves in need of support from our community. We are reaching out to ask for your help in getting back on our feet. Your generous donations will go directly towards covering Vincent’s transportation to and from doctors appointments and our basic living expenses during this difficult time.
Every little bit helps, and we are eternally grateful for any support you can provide. Your kindness will make a significant difference in Vincent’s life and our ability to provide him with the care he needs.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for considering a donation. We appreciate your prayers, support, and generosity more than words can express.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Parents of an Angel on earth
