Help Victoria & James save Zoey.

On Wednesday May 5th at 11PM our 2 year old cat Zoey woke up from a nap and was losing control of her limbs, she was walking into walls and had no energy. I instantly knew something was very wrong. 

I immediately rushed her into the emergency vet and waited until 4 in the morning only to hear news that completely broke our hearts. Our beautiful healthy sweet kitty was blind, out of no where. She was diagnosed with Polycythemia. A rare bone marrow disease that results in a dangerously high red blood cell count. A healthy kitty has 35-45 red blood cell count, our baby is in the 70s right now. The vet referred to zoeys blood as being thick like molasses and without proper treatment will result in serious damage to the rest of her body. She will end up having heart disease, seizures, and early death without treatment, along with many other symptoms. 

Thankfully with proper treatment Zoey can live a happy life with her loving owners. If we proceed to treat zoeys illness , she would receive IV infusions for 5-10 plus days to lower her red blood cell count. This would have to be consistent treatment consecutively. It all depends on how many treatments will get her red blood cell count down below 50. After that she would be put on medication to suppress this disease and with regular vet visits can go on to live a happy life. Unfortunately each treatment costs approximately $500 per session. meaning if it takes 5 transfusions we are looking at 2500$ , or 5000$ if it takes 10 transfusions. Right now the vet is saying 10 treatments will be necessary.

unfortunately we are in a very tight money situation right now. James mom is battling her final days of cancer so he is currently not working and is her caretaker in PEI. I have been laid off due to covid, and we just feel so defeated and unsure of what else to do. We love our sweet baby girl so much, and neither of us can bare the thought of going on without her knowing she can be treated. Our hearts are completely shattered.
