Hi,
My name is Victor. My sister and I live in our family home. We are the remaining members of our family of seven that moved here in 1968.
Our family opened a little place in 1978 called the Unicorn Restaurant and for twenty three years had a pretty good business.
Over the years we we were forced to relocate twice due to the rising presence of corporate progress in our community.
In January of 2000 our father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. and we were forced to close because our landlord said that since daddy died, there was no one to guarantee the lease.
My mother and older brother each had debilitating illnesses and so my sister and I took on the financial responsibility of caring for them while my younger brother stayed home and cared for them.
My older brother fell into a deep depression and his health began to fail and in May of 2002 he passed of endocarditis, a heart disease form which very few recover. My mother had a heart valve transplant in 2010 and sister and I still supported her and my younger brother who was mom's caregiver.
In august of 2013, I lost my job. In September of that year, my brother passed away. This took a great blow to my mom and sister. They each fell into a great depressive state.
I sometimes think that God had planned my losing my job so I could be there for them both.
In December of that year, mom had a seizure and she too was diagnosed with endocarditis. She passed away on March 1, 2014.
I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2011 and have had debilitating issues with arthritis and spinal degeneration. I've had a total hip replacement but continued to work.
My sister was very close, being the only girl of the family to my mother and just as close to my brother. They were the "Babies" of our family.
Having fallen into a deep state of depression and and working in a hostile environment under a crude and self caring manager, she quit her job in 2015.
In the meantime I took on the financial responsibility of caring for her and maintaining the finances of our home since I had a good paying job.
On October 23, 2019, I lost my job, as a chef, because I physically was unable to perform because of my spinal condition and arthritis in my knees and left hip as well some other conditions brought on by my diabetes.
I've tried to find work because I have always taken great pride of the ability to support my family.
I received unemployment benefits but have exhausted those and have no source of income since. My funds are exhausted as well.
I have filed for an extension of benefits in November 2019 and have only received a judgement of my claim is still under review.
I filed for disability and have received no response as well.
Because I lost my job, I was unable to pay my property taxes for 2019 and received a letter from the government that our home will do under a tax sale if I am unable to start payments soon.
I take three medication for my diabetes that cost $1795.00 a month. I have two weeks worth of medication left.
I love our home and have nowhere for sister and I to go should we
not meet this obligation.
I have always given to church and charity and am always amazed by the generosity of strangers and am humbled to ask for help now and would be so greatful for help from others.
These gifts would help to set up payments for taxes, mortgage and medication.
Thank you and may God bless you.
Victor
