Hello, I am Victor. In June, the company I had been with for the last 7 years had a huge layoff, and I was among those laid off. I have been unable to find employment. On the verge of turning 60, not many companies want to hire senior people. So, I pulled my 401k, which was not large, and my severance package and purchased a food trailer that specializes in handcrafted gourmet eggrolls. It is slowly building steam.
In the middle of getting the business launched, I had to have emergency surgery, which was a huge setback. But I did something really stupid. I believed a person that approached me about applying for a small business grant. It started off okay, but then fees started to be required. I was so appreciative of it that I did not stop and think that if it sounds too good to be true, then it is.
So, jumping forward, credit cards have been maxed, the bank account is in the negative, and I was served notice to vacate my home. I have until they set a court date to come up with the funds to stop the eviction and pay my essential bills to keep going. If you are near the DFW area, rather than making a donation, come by the Downtown Garland Food Truck Yard and try the handcrafted gourmet eggrolls.
Everything is appreciated. Never thought in a million years I would be in a position asking friends and strangers to help me. I am the one that tries to help anyone I can. So please, if you can find it in your heart to assist me in keeping my home, internet, and phone connection so I can continue to hopefully build this small business where it can sustain me and hopefully provide a couple of jobs to others.
