Rebuilding Nativo: A Home for Coffee, Culture & Community

Created by: Nakita Reid & Victor Nazar
Co-founders of Nativo Coffee Shop

☕ The Coffee Shop That Grew From Love
Nativo Coffee Shop was more than a café. It was—and still is—a movement. A sacred place where flavor meets freedom, where art, culture, and coffee come together to create community.

From the beginning, we—Nakita Reid and Victor Nazar—poured our entire selves into building Nativo. We didn’t just design a menu. We created a safe, welcoming space for creatives, students, immigrants, and locals from all walks of life. We built a family. We built a home.

In our first year, Nativo blossomed. It became a vibrant local hub in D.C.—a place for open mics, dance, music, storytelling, good food, and even better coffee. People came not just for the drinks, but for the feeling. For belonging.

Why We're Starting Over
As with many stories of passion, there were growing pains. Sometimes, not everyone who helps build something shares the same values—or the same long-term vision.

We entered into a partnership that no longer reflected the heart of Nativo. When promises were broken and values clashed, we made the difficult but necessary decision to walk away from our original location inside the International Square Food Hall.

This wasn’t an ending. It was a rebirth.

We’re choosing integrity over convenience. Purpose over ego. And most of all—we’re choosing you, the community that believed in Nativo from day one.

What Comes Next
With your help, we’re ready to rebuild Nativo—this time on our own terms, and with deeper roots.

Every dollar raised will go directly toward:

Securing a new, fully independent location
⚙️ Purchasing equipment and rebuilding infrastructure
Hiring back our amazing baristas and team members
Continuing cultural events, workshops, and open mics
Creating mentorship and job opportunities for local youth
☕ Expanding our menu, sustainability practices, and reach
We’re not just reopening a shop. We’re restoring a mission. One that’s rooted in justice, hospitality, and love.

❓ FAQ: How Your Support Helps
Q: Is Nativo still active?
️ Not currently in a physical space, but we’re doing pop-ups and community events while rebuilding.

Q: How will the funds be used?
️ We’re allocating:

~40% toward securing a commercial lease
~25% toward purchasing or leasing essential equipment (espresso machine, grinders, fridges)
~20% toward staffing and payroll support
~10% for legal, insurance, and operational setup
~5% for pop-ups, merchandise, and community outreach
Q: Will you stay in the D.C. area?
️ Yes. Our roots are here—and our next location will be as accessible and intentional as ever.

Q: Can I support another way?
️ Absolutely! Share this campaign, book a Nativo pop-up, or follow us on social media. Community support means more than just money—it’s the energy that keeps us going.

❤️ A Final Word
We walked away to protect what matters most. Not coffee, not profits—but community.

Now, we’re coming back stronger, freer, and more focused than ever.

This is a chance to build something that no one can ever take away again. A place that belongs to all of us. A movement wrapped in a coffee cup.

If you’ve ever been touched by a Nativo moment, shared a laugh over a latte, or danced in our space—this is your chance to help bring it back.

Let’s build a new Nativo, together.

With gratitude and bold hearts,
Victor & Nakita
