Hello everyone!

My name is Iveth Gonzales, 23, from West Orange, NJ and I am making this on behalf of my whole family and I.

Unfortunately, on my 23rd birthday (January 18), I found out my amazing, hard working father, Victor Gonzales, 47, who came to this country from Peru 25 years ago to give his family a better future, was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. On January 5th to January 21st, my father was hospitalized at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ due to being short of breath and having a dry cough. During his stay he was on multiple medications and oxygen and multiple medical exams were conducted. However, one's family worst nightmare, he was diagnosed with an incurable disease called Pulmonary Fibrosis. This is a lung disease that occurs when lung tissue becomes damaged and scarred. This thickened, stiff tissue makes it more difficult for your lungs to work properly. As this disease worsens it makes it difficult for one to even do daily tasks due to being short of breath. As we speak, my father's lung function is already at 50% and is deteriorating slowly. With there being no cure, according from the time of diagnosis, my father has a life expectancy of 2-5 years but with your help and in God's hands, we are praying for more years.

Upon leaving the hospital, as per the doctors, he will be on 24/7 oxygen for the rest of his life. Due to the fact, both my father and mother are still in the works of fighting for their legal status within this country (meaning they are not a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Resident), this makes it extremely hard to access health insurance.

With this said, fortunately enough my family and I were able to rent an oxygen concentrator but could not buy a portable oxygen machine due it being expensive. However, with a portable oxygen concentrator it would make it easier for my father to walk around outside, leave the house for a short period of time to get fresh air with his family. Currently with the oxygen concentrator being at home, my father has been home bound and unfortunately cannot work any longer.

Also, with there being no cure to pulmonary fibrosis, as specified by the doctor, there are treatments to slow the progress but no cure. However, as per speaking to my father's doctor, medicine treatment which is only one step we can take, on average costs $5,000-$10,000 MONTHLY. In addition, to prolong my father's life, he is in desperate need of a lung transplant. However, to even begin his medicine treatment or even put him on a lung transplant list, health insurance is required to at least minimize some costs. But with my father's legal status this has made it even more difficult for my family and I. My father's quality of life has been impacted in a blink of an eye. His life has changed and my family and I are doing everything in our power to prolong his life.

With your help, we will be able to buy a portable oxygen machine in which he can carry and step foot outside the house. We can even begin his medicine treatment in which can also possibly slow down his progress. And in the long run, we can even get him started on more medical exams to hopefully get placed on the lung transplant list to receive one. And pay off any medical debt we acquire.

Family Background:

My father, Victor, came into this country to give his family the American Dream. He immigrated from Chimbote, Peru in 1997 to work hard and give his family a better future. Victor has to live more years for his daughter, son and wife, Iveth (23), Victor Andrew (12) and Jessenia Sanchez (43). He has raised two wonderful kids, in which his daughter has graduated from Rutgers University-Newark May 2021 with her Bachelor's of Science in Criminal Justice and Sociology and will be graduating May 2022 with her Master's in Public Administration. Andrew is currently in 7th grade.

From the bottom of my heart, I am creating this on behalf of my family and I to ask for any help and your prayers for my family during this time. Mi nombre es Iveth Gonzales, 23, de West Orange, NJ y estoy haciendo esto en nombre de toda mi familia y yo.

Desafortunadamente, en mi 23 cumpleaños (18 de enero), descubrí que mi increíble y trabajador padre, Víctor Gonzales, de 47 años, quien vino a este país desde Perú hace 25 años para darle a su familia un futuro mejor, fue diagnosticado con fibrosis pulmonar. Del 5 al 21 de enero, mi padre fue hospitalizado en el Centro Médico Saint Barnabas en Livingston, NJ debido a que le faltaba el aire y tenía tos seca. Durante su estadía estuvo con múltiples medicamentos y oxígeno y se le realizaron múltiples exámenes médicos. Sin embargo, la peor pesadilla de la familia de uno, le diagnosticaron una enfermedad incurable llamada Fibrosis Pulmonar. Esta es una enfermedad pulmonar que ocurre cuando el tejido pulmonar se daña y cicatriza. Este tejido rígido y engrosado hace que sea más difícil que sus pulmones funcionen correctamente. A medida que esta enfermedad empeora, le resulta difícil incluso realizar las tareas diarias debido a la dificultad para respirar. Mientras hablamos, la función pulmonar de mi padre ya está al 50% y se está deteriorando lentamente. Al no haber cura, según desde el momento del diagnóstico, mi padre tiene una expectativa de vida de 2 a 5 años pero con su ayuda y en las manos de Dios estamos orando por más años.

Al salir del hospital, según los médicos, estará con oxígeno las 24 horas del día, los 7 días de la semana, por el resto de su vida. Debido al hecho de que tanto mi padre como mi madre todavía están luchando por su estatus legal dentro de este país (lo que significa que no son ciudadanos estadounidenses ni residentes estadounidenses), esto hace que sea extremadamente difícil acceder a un seguro médico.

Dicho esto, afortunadamente, mi familia y yo pudimos alquilar un concentrador de oxígeno, pero no pudimos comprar una máquina de oxígeno portátil debido a que era costosa. Sin embargo, con un concentrador de oxígeno portátil sería más fácil para mi padre caminar afuera, salir de la casa por un corto período de tiempo para tomar aire fresco con su familia. Actualmente, con el concentrador de oxígeno en casa, mi padre ha estado confinado en su casa y lamentablemente ya no puede trabajar.

Además, al no haber cura para la fibrosis pulmonar, según lo especificado por el médico, existen tratamientos para retrasar el progreso pero no hay cura. Sin embargo, según hable con el médico de mi padre, el tratamiento con medicamentos, que es solo un paso que podemos tomar, cuesta en promedio entre $5,000 y $10,000 MENSUALES. Además, para prolongar la vida de mi padre, necesita desesperadamente un trasplante de pulmón. Sin embargo, incluso para comenzar su tratamiento con medicamentos o incluso ponerlo en una lista de trasplante de pulmón, se requiere un seguro de salud para al menos minimizar algunos costos. Pero con el estado legal de mi padre, esto ha hecho que sea aún más difícil para mi familia y para mí. La calidad de vida de mi padre se ha visto afectada en un abrir y cerrar de ojos. Su vida ha cambiado y mi familia y yo estamos haciendo todo lo que está a nuestro alcance para prolongar su vida.

Con su ayuda, podremos comprar una máquina de oxígeno portátil en la que pueda llevar y poner un pie fuera de la casa. Incluso podemos comenzar su tratamiento con medicamentos que posiblemente también pueden ralentizar su progreso. Y, a la larga, incluso podemos hacer que comience con más exámenes médicos para, con suerte, ser incluido en la lista de trasplantes de pulmón para recibir uno.

Mi padre, Víctor, vino a este país para darle a su familia el Sueño Americano. Emigró de Chimbote, Perú en 1997 para trabajar duro y darle a su familia un futuro mejor. Víctor tiene que vivir más años por su hija, hijo y esposa, Iveth (23), Victor Andrew (12) y Jessenia Sánchez (43). Ha criado a dos hijos maravillosos, en los cuales su hija se graduó de la Universidad de Rutgers-Newark en Mayo de 2021 con su Bachelor's en Ciencias en Justicia Criminal y Sociología y se graduará en Mayo de 2022 con su Maestría en Administración Pública. Andrew está actualmente en séptimo grado.

Desde el fondo de mi corazón, estoy creando esto en nombre de mi familia y pido ayuda y sus oraciones por mi familia durante este tiempo.
