Help Vicky Recover From Her Stroke

Hi, My name is Laura and my dear friends Vicky and Mike need your help! If you know them, you know they both are pure love and resilience. When I first moved to WV, they were the first people I met, while working in a greenhouse for the summer. We became fast friends and ultimately they helped in shaping who I am today. It’s rare you meet people, who shape your entire life path, and share whatever they can with you and their community. I honestly, don’t know where I’d be in my life without them and now they need all of our help! ❤️

In Late December, Vicky Law suffered a severe stroke. Mike was told, she would not recover, that her brain damage was irreversible. Those nearly two weeks in the hospital were horrible, she had minimal care and developed an infection in her arm due to the IV. Everyday, Mike was there with her as long as they would let him stay. He sat with her, talked to her and gave her the best homeopathic treatments available.

Mike and a close friend decided it was time to take her home and they worked around the clock to find all the used hospital equipment that she would need, since waiting for insurance approval would have taken a lifetime….. Once home, they were only granted 3 weeks of in-home care covered by insurance, and those three weeks resulted in 6 hours total of any and all support and LACKED speech therapy.

Since, returning home, Vicky has made tremendous recovery steps. She is feeding herself even with her non-dominant hand, she is able to tell Mike when she needs to use the restroom, and she is completing simple matching games and puzzles. The brain is truly amazing when given the love and support that she has been given. According to most stroke support groups they have joined online, she is ahead of most recovery patients by about 6 months. Mike has lovingly coined this success as “Broke-Down Magic”☺️

However, they are still battling insurance companies to cover anything at all in regards to physical therapy and speech therapy. Since the stroke dept in the hospital had said she would not recover, the insurance company is unwilling to pay for anything until her next appointment analysis which is NOT until June! Luckily with the help of a dear friend and countless hours of internet research, they have been doing physical therapy on their own and seeing great improvements. Still, there are many more needs, especially a speech therapist right now. It is known, that the sooner a stroke patient receives the care and therapy needed, the better the end results!

Since this has happened, neither Mike or Vicky have been able to work and are struggling on just social security and the love and support of their community. We all know, living just on social security barely covers bills, let alone food! Now, they need extra funds just to get the therapy Vicky desperately needs! I know money is tight for everyone right now, I also know every little bit adds up, and when a lot of people give a little, that does have a tremendous impact!
