A New Home for Vickie: Help a Retired Teacher Move In!
Vickie, a kind and amazing 68-year-old retired special needs teacher, is currently experiencing homelessness with her three beloved cats. She dedicated her life to helping vulnerable children, and now she urgently needs our help to secure her new home.
The Financial Rollercoaster
Vickie was living on a month-to-month lease when the management of her trailer park decided to sell the property, giving her only 30 days to vacate. The move-out date was October 31st.
We quickly found a promising new place for her and submitted an application. Unfortunately, just before she had to leave her home, she was wrongly told that she was $25 shy of meeting the income requirements and was denied.
Because of this denial, Vickie was forced into emergency spending to keep herself and her cats safe and dry:
Renting a storage unit for her belongings.
Renting a U-Haul truck.
Paying for an extended stay in a motel room so she and her cats wouldn't have to sleep in her car.
The Good News, and the Catch
Yesterday, we received exciting news! The realtor called and confirmed that his team reviewed her application again, and she does in fact meet all the requirements for the new lease. Vickie has been approved for the House!
However, the unexpected costs of the storage unit, U-Haul, and motel room—all incurred because of the initial, incorrect denial—have completely drained her limited savings. She is now unable to afford the total amount needed to sign the lease, which includes the security deposit and first month's rent.
Vickie is a selfless person who is always the first to help anyone she can. We hate to see her in this distressing situation, especially after dedicating her career to helping others. Please help us raise the final funds needed to get Vickie and her three cats out of the motel and into their safe, permanent new home!
