Vicki Vinson, a much-loved, long-serving Grady High School math teacher (Pre-Calc and AP Statistics), has experienced an unthinkable tragedy. Her daughter (36 years old, a single mom of three, living in Mississippi) died suddenly Thursday 8/27/20 of an undiagnosed medical condition. She leaves a 12 year old daughter, a 13 year old son with special needs, and an 18 year old who had just started his first job.

Vicki and her partner (also a teacher, in Dekalb county) immediately travelled to MS to be with the kids and are now making their way back to Atlanta with them.

What will your donations fund?

• Vicki and her partner currently live in a 1 bedroom apartment and will be moving into a 3 bedroom in the same complex, at significantly greater cost. 
• They need to hire a lawyer in Mississippi to be awarded emergency guardianship of the children; this is estimated to cost $2,000.
• They need to cover funeral / burial costs.
• They need to set up their new home with furniture and supplies to make this a safe and comfortable home for the kids as quickly as possible.
• They will incur an immediate an on-going increase in costs associated with groceries, healthcare, supplies, etc.
• There will be costs associated with mental health care as well as care for her special needs grandson.
