Vicki and I have known each other for over 20 years. In all that time, one thing has never changed—she has the biggest heart of anyone I know. She is the kind of person who would give you the shirt off her back, even when she has very little herself.
Today, I’m asking for help because Vicki is facing one of the hardest chapters of her life.
Vicki recently made the incredibly brave decision to leave a marriage marked by years of verbal and emotional abuse. What began as a loving relationship slowly turned into one built on control, isolation, and manipulation. Over time, her voice was silenced, her needs dismissed, and her independence taken from her piece by piece.
When Vicki experienced serious medical complications after the birth of her second child, she needed care and compassion—but instead, she was made to feel like a burden. Then, just over a year ago, she lost her mother to cancer, a loss that shattered her heart. During her mom’s final months, Vicki traveled hours away to care for her, helping with daily tasks and offering comfort during an incredibly painful time. Even then, she was met with control—being denied phone calls with her children and made to feel guilty for spending time with her dying mother.
Hoping for change, Vicki moved her family to a new city. Instead of improvement, the control intensified.
Recently, Vicki reached her breaking point. She stood up for herself and chose freedom. She secured her own apartment—a safe, peaceful place she can finally call her own. But since leaving, she has faced ongoing intimidation, threats, and barriers to accessing her personal belongings and spending time with her children. She is now navigating the overwhelming family court process while managing severe anxiety and emotional exhaustion.
Despite everything, Vicki continues to show incredible strength. But strength alone does not pay for housing, legal fees, basic necessities, or help someone rebuild from nothing.
