Help Vic on hir gender journey!
Donation protected
Hi there all you wonderful kind people!
My name is Vic, I'm at least a decade older than I look, and I identify as transgender (trans-masc) non-binary. My pronouns are Xe/Hir (imagine saying something halfway between "he" and "she", and "him" and "her"). I run a small LGBT+ social group in my local area in Sussex to help people of all genders, ages, and sexualities connect, but right now I need to ask for help rather than providing it!
For those who don't know, transitioning on the NHS is still much harder than it should be. There are only seven clinics across England, not counting pilot schemes, all of which are expected to service many thousands of people. My closest clinic (London) is currently offering initial assessments to people referred in December 2018, meaning there is a minimum of a five year wait just to be seen. Combined with the psych/medical assessments and an adjustment period for hormones to take effect, many of us are looking at a wait time of 8+ years before we start seeing our true selves in the mirror. And that's before we even think about surgeries...
As a result, most of us are forced to go private. If I wait for the NHS to provide care, I will realistically be approaching 50 by the time I actually see my true self. Which brings me to my request for help! I'd love to join up with GenderGP so I can start my hormone journey in 2024 in order to feel comfortable in my own body. But I need to find enough money to cover the first year of treatment, including setup fees, monthly subscriptions, medical assessments, and the prescriptions themselves. Altogether, it will be something in the region of £1,500, with yearly costs after that closer to £1,000.
Even a small donation will help and will be massively appreciated. My priority is making sure my first year is covered so I have space to figure something more sustainable out, but if you want to contribute towards costs in the future too, that'd be amazing!
Much love to all of you who are generous enough to help me and my trans siblings x
