Hi, I’m Vianney.

I never thought I’d find myself in this position, but here I am reaching out for support during one of the most challenging chapters of my life.

As a competitive strength athlete, this journey has been especially devastating. I’ve gone from pushing my body to its peak, to now struggling with chronic pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, and symptoms that make even basic daily tasks difficult. It has left me unable to work, made my final internship extremely difficult to keep up with, and affected nearly every aspect of daily living. Despite multiple tests and specialists, I still don’t have a clear diagnosis.

I’ve tested positive for Anti-MDA5 antibodies, a rare marker linked to inflammatory muscle diseases like dermatomyositis. But I don’t present like the textbook cases, which has made diagnosis even harder. My rheumatologist doesn’t feel comfortable ordering the muscle biopsy I likely need, and locally, no one has the expertise to manage a case this complex.

I’ve been referred to UNM and both Mayo Clinic campuses, and after careful consideration, I’ve decided to pursue care at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. It’s home to a nationally recognized Inflammatory Myositis Clinic, where specialists across disciplines work together to diagnose and treat rare autoimmune muscle diseases. They also lead cutting-edge research and clinical trials, making Rochester the smartest and most resource-efficient option for me.

In trying to stay functional, I’ve also been using a research peptide called SS-31 (Elamipretide) to support mitochondrial health. It’s helped, but after months of use, I now require higher doses and it’s no longer financially sustainable. It’s not covered by insurance, and I’ve already depleted my 401k trying to pay for medical costs and my education.

I’m asking for help to cover travel, lodging, and care at Mayo Clinic. Whether you’re able to donate or simply share this, it means the world to me. Your support brings me one step closer to answers, treatment, and getting my life back.
