Pets often play a major role in veterans’ health and well-being. The Veterans’ Pets Healthcare Fund was created by the Zaltho Foundation to help military veterans in the area of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, cover the costs of veterinary care for their pets. Your donation can be life-changing for veterans and their pets.
The Zaltho Foundation is partnering with veterinary clinics in our local area to identify veterans who are struggling to afford veterinary care for their pets and help them to cover the costs.
The Veterans’ Pets Healthcare Fund is a project of the Zaltho Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that has supported military veterans and their loved ones since 1993.
100% of the donations collected through this campaign will go to the costs of veterinary care.
GET TO KNOW the pets we have been able to support:
“This is Jackson, our 13-year-old rescued dog who was struck with a very bad case of pancreatitis. This condition is extremely painful for dogs and prevents them from eating or drinking due to inflammation. He spent over seven days at the Wynn Haven Animal Hospital where he received outstanding treatment. As you can imagine, his medical bills added up quickly. With the extremely generous help from the Veterans' Pets Healthcare Fund, the cost was cut by 50%. We can’t thank you enough.”—Kenneth C., Iraq War veteran
“My name is Amy, and I am a disabled Iraq war veteran. My support dog is a Borzoi named Nadi, and she is a free spirit who loves to push the boundaries of her physical limitations. A few weeks before Nadi’s annual checkup, a spot on her rear leg began to bleed. It was the same leg she had broken a few years earlier. I went to the vet, and it turned out Nadi would need two surgeries. When I learned that the Zaltho Foundation’s Veterans' Pets Healthcare Fund would cover half the cost, I cried. A huge stressor was lifted from me and I was able to focus on the most important thing: Nadi and her recovery. I would like to thank the Zaltho Foundation for making this possible.”—Amy M., Iraq War veteran
“I assist feral cats in our neighborhood. The latest was Samson, who had gotten in a fight, needed antibiotics, and needed to be neutered. (His owner had overdosed on drugs.) Samson was at the corner store homeless, so I brought him into my house. He is alive and well because of the financial support I received. I feel much gratitude for the help from the Veterans Pets Healthcare Fund.”—Barbara, mother of a veteran
We sent $500 to support Gladys and her dog Matze:
"My husband served our country for 18 years in the Air Force. My dog is a 14-year-old long haired chihuahua, which I rescued. He was 4 years old when I had him and since he has been my loyal companion. He was very grateful that I saved him from a horrible life and has been my happiness. He goes everywhere with me. Last week, he was not eating nor drinking and he looked very bad. I took him to see the doctor who told me that he was having renal failure and suffers from congestive heart. This news broke my heart and could not sleep for days. I prayed and prayed for his well-being and a miracle happened. He is home with me taking his medicines. I thank Dr. Tovrea for working diligently to save my beloved dog.
And I thank you from the bottom of my heart for “rescuing” me financially. Bless you."
Supporting Jen Wilson and her cat Kit Kat
Hello and thank you for your supporting my sick cat, Kit Kat. I adopted her in 2020 during COVID from a friend that owns a farm. Kit Kat has been such a joy to my family, and we are quite bonded. She has had good health and wonderful care at home and has been current on her vaccines.
I was traveling earlier this month to return home to her sick. The veterinarian hospitalized her immediately. She was on IV for over 35 hours at the veterinarian and one overnight at the ER veterinarian clinic. She is diagnosed with chronic kidney failure. I was told she would have died without the immediate and overnight care.
She is now home recovering and has made tremendous progress in such a short time. I am very grateful for your assistance in helping Kit Kat with her healing.
The Zaltho Foundation’s Veterans Pets Health Care Fund supported dog Stella Rose financially to get her eye surgery paid. Thank you to everyone who cares about this project and supports it.
“My wife and I really appreciate the financial help for our little girl, Stella Rose Buck. Stella Rose was adopted and rescued as a nine-month-old dog from Sandusky Ohio Animal Clinic.
When we lived in Indiana, we drove four hours s to see her – and we immediately fell in love with her. The shelter did background checks on us. When we were approved, we drove back to pick Stella Rose up. We had a Shar-Pei that recently passed away; to help us with grieving It was perfect timing for healing with our new girl.
I spent 4 years in the Army Reserve National Guard stationed at Camp Atterbury-Muscatatuck, Indiana. I am a disabled veteran. I broke my back, and over time it has been rough. Now Stella Rose is officially my service dog. So, when it is hard for me to get up, she is able to help me with that and other things.”
