Hello, my name is Catherine, and I’m reaching out to you on behalf of my father, 76-year-old, Richard McQueen, who is a proud U.S. Air Force veteran, widowed husband, uncle, and grandfather to 13 grandchildren, and homeowner. Unfortunately, he has found himself in an unimaginable situation.

My father’s home was raided by the Atlanta SWAT team due to a tip about an escapee, Derrick Groves, hiding out in his home, who was not the assigned leaseholder. It was later revealed to be the last escapee inmate from New Orleans. The Atlanta Police Department's SWAT team raid caused severe damage to his home. Though no one was hurt during the safe apprehension of Derrick Groves, we support law enforcement and understand that this task needed to be done, but what was left behind was major damage.

The garage door and frame, all entry doorways and frames, and all windows were breached and blown out. The devastation to both his property and peace of mind is overwhelming.

To make matters even more difficult, my father recently lost his wife last September. He decided to rent his home for since he wasn't occupying it and went through a realtor company that handled credit and background screenings, hoping to find reliable tenants while he cared for his terminally ill wife in their hometown of St. Louis. His goal was to keep his forever home cared for and secure so that he could one day return.

After her passing, my father moved back to Atlanta, still mourning her loss while also facing his own health challenges. Now, after this tragic event, he has been left responsible for all the repair costs, despite having no involvement in what led to the raid.

The financial burden is more than he can bear alone.
