U.S. Army Veteran Faces Eviction After Section 8 Transfer Failure — Help Chris Stay Housed in Mojave, CA

My name is Michael Henderson, and I’m raising funds for my nephew, Christopher McCleve, a proud U.S. Army veteran who is now facing eviction from his apartment in Mojave, California — through no fault of his own.

Chris did everything right. But the Los Angeles housing system failed him, and now he’s at risk of losing the roof over his head — and his peace of mind.

A Veteran Who Rebuilt His Life

Chris served this country in the U.S. Army. After his service, he went through struggles like many veterans do — but he got clean, got stable, and rebuilt his life in Los Angeles.

For years, he lived responsibly with the help of the VASH (Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing) Section 8 program. But as the rent in Los Angeles kept rising, Chris made a smart, careful decision to move somewhere more affordable: Mojave, California, in Kern County.

He Followed the Rules. They Just Never Called Back.

Two months before his move, Chris:
• Gave his L.A. landlord proper notice
• Submitted paperwork to transfer his voucher to Kern County
• Sent over 50 emails — no response
• Called dozens of times, waiting on hold for 15–20 minutes every time — only for the call to drop
• Visited the Section 8 office in person and handed them his transfer paperwork
They told us: “Everything’s fine. It will be processed.”
That was months ago. Nothing ever happened.

️ Now He’s Facing Eviction — And Time Is Running Out

Chris now lives in a small apartment in Mojave with his cat, trying to stay afloat. But:
• His voucher was never transferred
• His landlord hasn’t been paid
• He’s received no help from the housing authority
• And now, he’s being threatened with eviction

Even a VA housing support worker who stepped in hasn’t been able to get through the wall of silence.

Why We’re Asking for $7,000

We are asking for $7,000 to help Chris stay housed, keep the lights on, and stay stable while we continue fighting through the Section 8 mess with housing officials or city council.

This will cover:
• Back rent and upcoming rent
• Utilities and basic living needs
• Emergency costs if eviction becomes unavoidable

This isn’t just about rent — it’s about giving Chris enough breathing room to hold on until the housing office does its job.

‍♂️ This Is Happening to Other Veterans Too

Chris isn’t alone. There are countless veterans trying to get out of Los Angeles because the cost of living is simply too high — and they’re running into the exact same problems:

No answers. No action. No help.

Chris served this country. He’s clean. He’s responsible. He loves his cat. And now he’s being punished simply for trying to live somewhere more affordable.

❤️ Please Help Us Keep Him Housed

If you can donate — even a small amount — it will help Chris stay safe, secure, and stable during this fight.

If you can’t donate, please share this story. The more people who see it, the better chance we have of helping Chris — and exposing what’s happening to veterans across California.

Thank you for your compassion,
— Michael Henderson
