My name is Alan Harvey Young, and I am an 81-year-old U.S. Army veteran who has spent my life serving others. Today, I find myself in a position where I must humbly ask for help.
I first answered the call to serve my country in 1966 when I joined the United States Army as a sharpshooter. After completing my active duty, I continued serving for six more years in the D.C. National Guard and was honorably discharged. Service has always been a core part of my life.
Beyond the military, I spent many years giving back to my community. I served as a Boy Scout scoutmaster mentoring young people, volunteered as a nonprofit board chaplain, and shared my love of nature, hunting, fishing, camping, and the outdoors with friends and neighbors. Helping others has always been important to me.

Unfortunately, the past year has brought serious health challenges.
In September 2025, I underwent major heart surgery that required two stents. My recovery has been slow, and my mobility has declined due to a severely deteriorated hip that now requires replacement. I can no longer walk, and some nights I must sleep in my wheelchair because getting safely into bed is too painful.
Then, in late December, I was hospitalized again with serious bacterial infections in both of my lower legs. I am currently recovering in rehabilitation and will need in-home nursing care once I return home.

These medical challenges have created financial burdens that I cannot manage alone. I currently have over $7,000 in medical debt, and I urgently need several home accommodations to live safely, including:
• A lift-assist recliner to help me stand and rest safely
• A stair chairlift to reach my bedroom
• Bathroom modifications such as a wheelchair-accessible shower
• In-home nursing care during recovery
The goal of this fundraiser is to raise $10,000 to help cover these essential needs and medical expenses so that I can remain safely in my home with dignity.
It is difficult to ask for help after a lifetime of serving others, but I am grateful for any support you can provide. Every donation, prayer, and share of this campaign helps more than you know.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for helping honor a veteran who simply wants to recover and live safely at home.
With gratitude,
Alan Harvey Young
