Help Veta Stay in Her Beloved Nursing Home
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Holly and I am the oldest of five children (four still living) of my mom, Veta. She just turned 95 this March 2025 and lives in a nursing home up north in Minnesota. Unfortunately, we were just apprised recently that there is a very large balance on her account that must be paid off very soon. It’s about $12,000.00 and while my siblings are willing to help – they are not able. All of us are retired, most with our own health problems.
My mother is a beautiful person with a big heart. She has “adopted” many people into our family over the years. We grew up in a house constantly filled with people, laughing, cooking, eating, and just having a good time. My mother has been open to the LGBTQ community for as long as I can remember. Some felt at home for the first time in our home. I saw nothing unusual in any of these people (and still don’t).
My mother has also been very talented in her life. She was a soloist in her church choir and also belonged to the Bach Society. She led our family in sing-alongs when we were children at nursing homes. She was also a member of a community theater for many years that entertained children and their families. She played the wicked queen and the evil hag in Snow White. I can still remember her cackling as she jumped off the stage and ran down the aisle of the auditorium, children shrieking as she ran past. She is also the author of a book of poetry called Songs In the Night.
Unfortunately, age is taking its toll and she needs help more than ever due to a decrease in mental faculties and mobility. She is loved by many of those in the nursing home and I am sure would be missed if she could not continue to live there. This is threatened by the large debt hanging over her head and there is little we can do. Can you help us in any way? Although my mother is fiercely independent with an “I can do this” attitude, she is no longer capable. Please let us help her keep her dignity and her place there.
