Help 1 yr old Vesper—farm dog, wiggle butt, and resident ray of sunshine—recover from her emergency surgery!
My sister, Rhianna, and her partner Alex's adorable, wiggly farm dog, Vesper, needed emergency surgery on 9/3 to save her life from a serious infection. She developed a badly infected abscess behind her ear from a small wound that quickly grew to the size of a grapefruit. Vesper was scheduled for a simple surgery later this week to safely drain and sterilize the infection that would have only cost $250, but before she could be seen the abscess burst and left her incredibly sick, the infection seeping into her blood.
She was brought to the emergency vet over Labor Day weekend covered in blood and fluids, with a fever of 107° and extreme pain and discomfort. The amazing emergency vet in Littleton, NH, was able to stabilize her and she was brought to Concord, NH in the middle of the night for emergency surgery to drain and clean the wound, which ended up costing well over $3,500.
Vesper was incredibly lucky to survive the night, and now faces two weeks of recovery where she needs to be kept in a completely clean environment (tough for a farm dog who loves the dirt!) and receive hours of care each day. My sister and her partner are just a two-person team running their organic vegetable farm, Rocky Branch Farm, and will not be able to care for her and run their farm while she recovers.
Vesper is a beloved part of Rocky Branch Farm and our family. Her goofy smile and whole-body wiggles are always guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
The money raised through this campaign will be used to recoup the costs of her emergency surgery and recovery care needs. My sister and her partner used a large portion of savings they had planned to reinvest in improving their farm for next year to cover Vesper's emergency, and any funds raised through this campaign will go a long way to help ensure that they are able to cover running costs for the 2023 growing season.
My sister and her partner are incredibly hard-working and dedicated to their small farm, and I know it's not an easy decision for them to put that work on pause for two weeks—however, they would do anything for their beloved Vesper Nugget. Your generous contributions will help them tremendously, and help Vesper get back to her wiggly, zucchini-loving, river-swimming, dirt-rolling, farm dog self in no time.
Thank you so much for reading her story and supporting her recovery!
