Hi, my name is Vesper Remiel and I'm a 27 year old nonbinary individual, as well as a small city drag performer by the name of Danger!Toxic. I've been wanting top surgery for years (since high school) but haven't had the means or support in my life to pursue it. Now, with the looming threat of changes in insurance coverage with current administration, or the option of having it taken away entirely, I've scheduled a date for top surgery at the end of November before I can't.
Unfortunately, while I now have the support of a wonderful community and found family to physically get me through surgery recovery & prior authorization from my insurance, the cost is still a lot financially between out of pocket for the surgery, recovery, and missed work. Thankfully, my insurance does cover a percentage of the surgery, as well as I won't face travel costs with a local surgeon, so this fundraiser is to help cover costs of the surgery itself as well as additional recovery costs & missed work time/making rent.
This surgery will help me feel more at home in my body, as well as relieve the anxiety of having the ability to feel more at home in my body taken away from me. I've still internalized a lot of anxiety/shame around asking for help from childhood, especially financially, but I know I need the support to be able to do this on such short notice after burning through what meager savings I had due to a leave of absence from school because of threats and burn out.
I deeply appreciate any help you're able to provide. Additionally, I'll also be putting on a fundraiser drag show earlier in the month of November, and if you're interested in helping out in that capacity rather than financially (because I know we're all struggling atm) please don't hesitate to reach out :)
