Help Veronica's Ukrainian Family build a new life
Donation protected
The situation in Ukraine has affected us all in various ways. Having close family in Kyiv and Mariupol has brought this horrific situation home. At the same time, many of us feel distant, baffled about the best way to assist, or feel helpless to do anything. But we are not helpless. Here is an opportunity to make an immediate impact in the relief efforts and help people ‘you know’. Please assist our family members from Mariupol and Kyiv re-establish themselves until they can return home by contributing to rebuilding the life of at least one family, our family. I will let my step-daughter Veronica tell the story:
---
My name is Veronica and I am 14 years old. My mother Marina was born and raised in Mariupol, Ukraine. You might have heard of this place on the news. We live in Cyprus now, but I am very worried about the other members of my Ukrainian family who have suffered under weeks of bombardment.
My grandmother and great-grandmother were trapped in Mariupol for a month until just a couple days ago, without water, electricity or heating. My grandma’s flat was bombed, and she lost everything she ever had – and I have so many beautiful memories of us in that place. They managed to flee in a sudden, desperate dash to a village outside of Mariupol, but their lives are still at great risk and they have not yet reached safety outside of the war zone.
Meanwhile, my aunt Victoria, her husband Andrey and my cousins Daniil (12) and Vasilissa (3) were in Kyiv when the war broke out. They had to take shelter in a basement with 20 other people for a month. For a long time, they were too scared to leave as it was judged too dangerous on the road. Finally, they were able to escape to Moldova, then journeyed from there through Romania, Hungary and Austria to a small town in Germany where they have friends, and where they are hoping to rebuild their lives. While they will be entitled to free health care and basic financial assistance in Germany, they have arrived only with their suitcases. They still have to rebuild their existence from scratch.
That is why my family and I are starting this fundraiser to help my aunt and my cousins start a new life and to help my grandma and great grandma escape danger and eventually join us in Cyprus. We can take care of them, like they took care of me when I was younger.
Please join me in this fundraiser to help my family.
Even a little bit helps. For the cost of an ice cream, a coffee, a haircut, you could make a huge difference in the lives of the people I love.
Thank you for your help!
Veronica
