Hi everybody thank you for taking the time to read our story. As some of you know it is a miracle that my mother is alive. On our family road trip, she began to show signs of having a stomach bug. On our way home, when we arrived in Amarillo Texas she began to fade rapidly and began to die in the hotel that we had reserved. So we carried her to the car, and rushed her to the hospital. She was dead on arrival due to septic shock, and a pulmonary embolism which were complications from what turned out to be bleeding from her lungs caused by a severe case of pneumonia. Thank God they were able to resuscitate her within a few minutes of arriving. She then spent the next 15 days in the ICU in Amarillo. As you can imagine this was very unexpected for all of us, and now are facing major financial hurdles stemming from her medical issues in needing ongoing care. The doctor did not approve her leaving the country to go back home due to the presence of several blood clots in her lungs and legs. She has a filter placed in an artery connected to her lung that will have to be surgically removed within months. We are working to get her a special visa so that she can stay and receive proper care. That includes having to pay a lawyer and USCIS fees.

Also because of her immigrant status she doesn't qualify for Medicare or Medicaid. She is on a medicine called Eliquis which is a blood thinner to help with her blood clots which costs around $550 monthly. The best quote I could get for her to have insurance to be able to do ongoing exams and see a pulmonologist, is $789 dollars month. In Brazil she gets paid in Reais which is 5-6x less than dollars, so she can't help my husband and I to afford all this. We have a lot of bills to pay on our own. As some of you know, I have my own business and the winter is not the best financial season for it.
