When we first shared Veronica's story, she was a little girl facing challenges most of us could hardly imagine.

Today, Veronica is 9 years old, happy, growing — and walking!

Veronica was born with a rare condition that severely affected the development of her legs. Her left leg was significantly underdeveloped, and her journey has included multiple surgeries, physical therapy and a prosthetic leg.

Through it all, Veronica has shown incredible determination.

And so many of you helped make her progress possible.

Now She's Facing a Good Problem — She's Growing!

Veronica is doing wonderfully. But like every 9-year-old, she's growing.

Unfortunately, a prosthetic leg doesn't grow with her.

Veronica has now outgrown her current prosthetic and needs a new leg that properly fits her growing body. A correctly fitted prosthetic is essential for her to continue walking comfortably and safely — and to maintain the independence she has worked so hard to achieve.

For Veronica, her prosthetic isn't simply a medical device. It's her mobility. Her independence. Her ability to keep up with the world around her.

And it's something she will continue to need as she grows.

Hello friends! -(2023 update)-

We wanted to update you on Veronika’s progress to date. She is now six years old.

The money you generously donated allowed her to get the surgery she needed to get started with her journey. When you look back, it’s almost one year!

Veronika has had seven surgeries so far. She has faced some complications but completed physical therapy and is now walking on her prosthetic leg. This initial device does not bend at the "knee" but is a great start for her to be standing up!

The next step, is a prosthetic leg that bends, allowing more motion and freedom. This step will take more funding and is tentatively scheduled for June of this year. We ask, once again, for your help to meet our goal and get Veronika her next prosthetic. Thank you so much for your continued support!

Veronika was born in 2016 with a rare condition, a miniature left leg, making her unable to walk. A temporary prosthetic leg only enables her to stand, as she can’t balance. Veronika is a very ambitious little girl and dreams of walking around playing with her friends, and she works tirelessly in physical therapy day after day believing she soon will be able to walk too.

Veronika’s grandmother discovered a world renowned team close to her Florida home, the Paley Institute in West Palm Beach, with a proven track record of bringing the gift of walking to literally hundreds of children worldwide with Veronika’s deformity. Dr. Paley, the best in the world in treating children like Veronika, developed many of these procedures, and can use a revolutionary bone-extending surgery to grow Veronika’s miniature left leg and, coupled with a prosthetic, enable Veronika to walk.

To make Veronika’s big dream reality, Veronica’s grandmother has been working 80+ hour weeks for the past two years, saving every penny she can for Veronika’s first set of surgeries, but she has not been able to save enough. These surgeries are most successful when done on a 3 or 4 year old child, and time is now running out. To do this miracle, Veronika needs your help, and she needs it now.
