I am 61 years old and, until last year, I worked hard to support myself and my family. After being laid off, I struggled to find a new job, and my health began to decline. I used up all my savings and, with my oldest son, started a new business. We were not only business partners and roommates, but each other's closest support. Tragically, he passed away unexpectedly in May, and since then, my life has unraveled. I lost my home, my business, and the stability I had worked so hard to build.
Now, I am staying in a motel with my two rescue Dachshunds, one of whom is 18 years old and would not survive life on the streets in winter. I am in the process of applying for Social Security disability, but it is a long and uncertain road. To get by, I have been selling my belongings and driving for DoorDash whenever my health allows. Last week, my car broke down, and without it, I have lost my only way to earn money, get to the food pantry, or make it to my doctor appointments. My motel room is only paid for a few more days, and after that, I am facing homelessness in the middle of an Indiana winter.
I have never asked for help like this before, but I am out of options. If I can get my car fixed, I can continue to support myself and my dogs, and at least have a safe place to stay. Thank you in advance to anyone who can find it in their heart to help. I never imagined I would be in this situation, but I am completely humbled and grateful for any support.
