My name is Lina and I am fundraising for our Dear Aunty Vere who was unexpectedly admitted into the Emergency department last Sunday night. Aunty Vere had left lower leg cellulitis which we had taken her to the GP to be seen on Sunday morning, and unfortunately she deteriorated and on Sunday afternoon was delirious and also had visual hallucinations and severe pain in her affected leg.

We made the decision to take her into Emergency around 10pm to receive care and due to being a Medicare ineligible patient, we had to pay upfront $700 for her be seen.

The Emergency doctors were concerned that Aunty Vere had necrotising fasciitis (flesh eating bacteria) and requested for a specialist surgeon to see her. He came and saw her at midnight, cut into her leg and fortunately it was a severe case of cellulitis with no necrotising fasciitis. Aunty Vere had several blood tests/ x-rays and multiple intravenous antibiotics/ pain medications in her first few hours of being in Emergency. She was then referred to an inpatient medical team and has since been admitted for this past week. Even with the intravenous antibiotics, the inpatient doctors expressed concerns that Aunty Vere was still quite unwell that she may require intensive care input and we have been lucky that our beloved aunt was able to fight for her life with the help of the medical treatment she received and continues to receive now.

Due to her Medicare ineligibility, we are now faced with an extensive medical bill and we’re humbly asking for your help. If you have ever crossed paths with Aunty Vere you would know that she is not one to ever ask for help but always willing to serve. Your donation- whatever the amount- will go directly towards covering her medical bills for the lifesaving treatment she has received so far.
