Help Vera Move to Alaska
Donation protected
My name is DeAnna Venable and I have a dear friend who needs help. Vera Grice is 87 years old. She is moving from Garland, Texas to Wasilla, Alaska where her only son lives, where she hopes to live out the rest of her days. She's always taken care of herself, but as we all know, when you reach a certain age you need help. Vera has never wanted to be a bother to anyone and won’t ask for help even when she needs it. Through her life she has always worked helping others. Whether as a waitress or a care-giver to the elderly, her life has been dedicated to others. Vera has helped several families out over the years, most importantly for me, being as a 24/7 caregiver for my father until the day he passed away. We've since recommended her to others who also fell in love with her during her service to them. This work was never anything more than a supplement to her small fixed Social Security income. At 87, when most would be retired, Vera continues to struggle to have money to make ends meet and to live an incredibly frugal life.
As you might guess, a move from Texas to Alaska is expensive, and getting settled into a new home will bring about some new/unexpected expenses. The population of Wasilla is less than 10K... about 8% of the population of Garland. So employment opportunities may be sparse, to say the least, especially for the new kid in town who happens to be 87. So any additional money we're able to raise for her living expenses will be great as well.
We all have those friends and family members... ones who never seemed to get a break in life, but never let life break them. Think of Vera as that sunny person who your family loves and please give if you can. Give a lot if you can afford to! We (my husband Van, sons Joe & John, and myself) will be giving her as much as we can beyond this campaign, but we know that won't be enough. She will get settled into Alaska and figure out how to make things work as she always has. If you can help us look out for the welfare of a dear family friend it would be greatly appreciated. And if you're about to click that donate button, thank you SO much and God bless you!
