I’m Vera! I’m a poor trans woman who has been facing a lot of difficulties over the past several years. I started working for Starbucks almost two years ago and it took me so long to get enough hours to qualify for benefits that by the time I did, the gender affirming care provided directly by Starbucks was slashed to cut costs. I had to jump through a lot of extra hoops but I got my surgery scheduled for September 12 with a top 5 surgeon, and covered by my plan! However because of the changes I will be responsible for my plan’s out of pocket maximum, which is just about $5000. I need 1/10th of that just for the pre op CT scan! I have some savings but I also have very low income so it would take me a while to recoup, especially since with the benefit year rolling over in October I’m going to have to pay the OOP max again next year to cover other procedures. Anything helps!
