On September 1, more than 80 vehicles were damaged in a mass vandalism incident at VCU’s A Lot near Main Street Station. Those affected were primarily VCU med students and VCU Health employees who returned from class or work to find their vehicle glass smashed.

For many, insurance is not covering the damage, or their deductible leaves them responsible for hundreds of dollars out of pocket. With vehicle-glass replacement costs averaging around $500 per vehicle, the estimated collective need is approximately $40,000.

GoFundMe recommended beginning with a smaller fundraising goal and increasing it as donations came in, which is why the displayed goal may be lower than the estimated total need.

This fund was created to help verified victims with those unexpected repair costs. Every contribution matters; even a few dollars, multiplied across our community, can make a meaningful difference.

FUND ADMINISTRATION & DISTRIBUTION

Fundraising, verification, and distribution will be completed no later than September 30, 2026.

To receive assistance, individuals will be required to provide documentation confirming their vehicle was damaged in the September 1 VCU A Lot incident and that they incurred an out-of-pocket vehicle-glass repair expense.

After fundraising closes, available net proceeds will be divided equally among verified eligible victims who request assistance by the claims deadline, up to each recipient’s documented out-of-pocket vehicle-glass repair expense. No recipient will receive more from this fund than the amount they personally incurred for the covered repair.

If funds remain after all verified eligible applicants have been reimbursed for their documented out-of-pocket vehicle-glass repair expenses, the remaining funds will be donated to an appropriate VCU Health-related emergency assistance or scholarship fund.

Fundraiser proceeds will be maintained separately from my personal funds, and distribution records will be retained for transparency.

My daughter was also among those affected. Her windshield has been replaced, but the repair was not covered by her insurance. IF she applies, is approved, and receives assistance from the fund, she will receive exactly the same amount as every other similarly situated eligible recipient, subject to the same documented-expense limit.
