**Update 10/14/24
Vauni had a successful surgery early in the morning 10/9/24. He is back home now on bed rest. His follow up is 10/17 for recasting and x-rays to make sure nothing has shifted. He is not quite out of the woods yet with dodging a rod and additional surgery.
Last night (10/8/24), Vauni sustained a traumatic leg injury—a complete break above the ankle of both bones. He was immediately transported to Akron Children's Hospital in Boardman, where it was determined he needed to be sent by ambulance again at 3 a.m. to Akron Children's main hospital for emergency orthopedic surgery to reset the bones. He is just out of surgery and now in recovery.
Hello, this is John and Lindsay Webber, President and VP of South Range Soccer Club. Please consider donating for Vauni Carolyne's emergency surgery and recovery. Nina and Vauni Carolyne both have a long history with SRSC. Nina as a longtime coach and currently a trainer, Vauni as a player and currently one of our referees. Nina, now the assistant coach for our South Range High School Girls Soccer team and Vauni who plays for our South Range High School Boys team need our help!
Vauni Carolyne ended his soccer season with South Range vs. Poland last night due to a traumatic injury. Vauni is currently in his sophomore year of high school at South Range. On Tuesday night, Oct. 8th, Vauni suffered two severe fractures to both his tibia and fibula when he collided with his opponent. He immediately had to undergo emergency orthopedic surgery to realign both fractures, with the potential for a rod replacement.
Vauni's healing process could take anywhere from 3 to 6 months, requiring aggressive treatment including recasting and physical therapy.
A last-minute surgical decision made by his mother, Nina Carolyne, done in good faith, believing that the longer healing time would lead to better long-term outcomes. This is a challenging medical time for both Vauni and Nina, who recently underwent a total knee replacement and a partial rod herself this past winter. Despite the circumstances, they are both optimistic as they move forward together.
This fund is to raise money to help with medical & other expenses as Vauni begins his road to recovery.
