VanNess Family Hit by F3 Tornado
Donation protected
On the evening of 4/12/20, Danielle VanNess was awoken from her sleep by the sound of the power clicking on and off. She heard what sounded like a train outside and woke her husband, Rick. Rick & Danielle took their 3 children from their beds, put them in in the bathroom, and covered them with a child's mattress. As the F3 tornado bore down on their home, Danielle sang songs with her kids to calm them. When the storm had calmed enough, the family crawled out and used flashlights in the dark to survey the damage. A tree was on the roof, water was pouring in multiple places, their home was destroyed. The sun came up, unveiling the damage and destruction and the VanNesses spent the day going through the debris for belongings, and trying to emotionally digest the trauma they endured. Danielle is a hospice nurse who just celebrated a year recovery from heart surgery, and her husband a local police officer. They work on the front lines and are essential personnel. In addition to the basics -- a place to live, replacing their belongings, food -- the VanNess family has a long journey of odds and ends expenses in recovery-- physically, emotionally, and mentally. Your donation could help buy socks, childrens therapy, groceries, totes to store the belongings they were able to recover, or the number of miscellaneous expenses they will have in the days ahead. They serve the community every day whole heartedly, let's serve them now. Danielle is one of the most calm and laid back people I've ever met-- she has endured a number of incredible difficulties with grace, and is always looking for a way to help those around her-- today, for the first time, I heard the most broken sounds in her voice. She is so thankful her family survived, and is is simultaneously burdened by the trauma her children endured. Please consider gifting to this family, anything you can. I would like to raise $5,000 for this family.
