My name is Vanessa, and I am a mother of three children working to rebuild our lives after surviving domestic violence. Last year, I made the difficult decision to leave an unsafe situation, which meant involving the police and seeking refuge in a safe house. While this step was necessary for our safety, it led to homelessness for my children and me. We spent nine months in Bastrop, trying to find stability while I managed both mental and physical health challenges.
During this time, I suffered a lumbar nerve injury that left me unable to walk and unable to work. My oldest child has had to take on responsibilities far beyond their years, helping me around the house, while my two younger children do their best to understand and cope with the changes. It’s been incredibly hard for them to see me in pain and unable to provide as I once did.
Right now, our most urgent needs are help support for an upcoming surgery that could restore my ability to walk and work again. With this surgery, I hope to regain my independence, return to work, and provide the stability and security my children deserve. Your support will help us keep our home and give my family the chance to heal and move forward.
